Why Does Weight Matter So Much in Grow a Garden?
Weight matters because the value formula squares the weight ratio. A crop at twice its base weight is worth about four times as much, before any variant or mutation.
What is the weight factor?
The weight factor is the crop's weight divided by its base weight, then squared.
Base weight is the crop's normal weight shown in game. The calculator never lets the factor drop below 1, so a crop lighter than its base weight is valued at its base value.
How fast does value grow with weight?
| Weight vs base | Weight factor |
|---|---|
| 1x base weight | 1x |
| 1.5x base weight | 2.25x |
| 2x base weight | 4x |
| 3x base weight | 9x |
| 5x base weight | 25x |
| 10x base weight | 100x |
What does that look like for a real crop?
Mango has a base value of 5,866 Sheckles. If a Mango weighs twice its base weight, the value is 5,866 × 4 = 23,464 Sheckles. At three times its base weight it is 5,866 × 9 = 52,794 Sheckles.
Should I grow heavier crops or chase mutations?
Both matter, and they multiply each other. A heavy crop with a strong mutation and a variant benefits from every factor at once. The weight factor is the easiest one to estimate, so check it first when you compare two crops.
